Failed to keep my promise to give to charity

by sleeper @ 06/02/2006 - 23:12:34

In Charity Promise, I promised to start giving regularly to charity by the end of January 2006.

I have FAILED, FAILED, FAILED! Damn it. >:-[

To make amends, I will immediately donate £10 to any UK registered or well-known charity suggested in the 1st response to this post. Over to you reader...

I will renew the promise, this time to set something up by the end of Feb. My excuse for the delay is that I want to involve my children in the decision and that probably means drawing up a short-list of sensible charities. As worthy as the Royal Society for the Under-Pampered Poodles is, I want to make sure my eldest daughter can't nominate it.

End of Febuary. Hold me to it!

Children in need!
But only if you want to

Actually forget that. Is guilt really the best way to give to charity? Or is it the ONLY way to give to charity? Ooops I've made myself think there....

Children in Need it is CJ. I think the motivation is less important than the act. If someone said to you, "I'm not giving to charity because it would be driven purely guilt," you'd probably have quite a low opinion of the person.

Compassion first, but if it has to be guilt, then surely that will do?

I will let you know when the deed is done.

Good on ya. Look forward to hearing how the kids react to this when you sit down with them - I suspect they'll be well up for it.

I donate twelve pounds a month, actually donate is the wrong word as though I give twelve pounds a month I actually sponsor someone with this money. I sponsor a homeless person, right now I am sponsoring a young woman with a baby,my money ( and of course that of other people) enables the Trust to house her and help her to feed and clothe herself and the child.
