Warship made with cornflakes packets

I decided to make a model of a ship and came across this picture of a model of HMS Vigo online:

The plan is to make an radio-controlled version, but first I needed to design it. To do that I found a CAD package - Delcam PowerSHAPE-e. This is the hull:

Cut out the bulkheads from various bits of cardboard lying about waiting to be recycled:

Then cover the hull with tissue paper and varnish:

Add some superstructure:

And paint:

blog-vigo-done

It's ballasted and waterproof so it does float nicely. The things people do to keep themselves out of mischief eh?! ;)

Hey thanks Technomist! It seems I've revived my son's interest in his own project so now it seems we must dismantle his radio controlled car to fit the motor and steering mechanism to his own model. I'll post a picture of that later. :)

LOL tobstv, I loved that comment! I feel sure there are more important skills than turning used cereal packets into slightly crumpled naval armaments and you're bound to be in possession of some of them.

No, I think what you are doing, your motivation (to inspire your son) your ability to recycle and design something...all fantastic.

I'm just a sad loser who can't stop himself from making glib comments.
