Hi Cavielover, thanks for the comments. Our guinea pig has become a bit more sociable since I wrote this and chirrups contendedly when you stroke him. We're all spending a bit more time with him. I wonder how he was treated by his previous owners. In spite of this, the personality award still has to go to the hamster.
I agree with you that the lad could do with a chum, but we had two before and when one died, we brought this one in to be friends with him. We can't go on doing this though. The line has to end somewhere.

All i can say is you must definately be doing somthing wrong in the way you keep your guinea pig. They are very sociable creatures who love attention, they will greet you when you enter the room and have even been known to sing when you wistle. If you feel this way about your guinea pig i should find it a companion so it has some company. If you spend some time getting to know it I'm sure you will feel differently.
