    Andrew,

Many thanks for leaving such a measured response, given my own hyperbole. I'll try to be measured in my response too.

I have not had the chance to read your link in full, there is simply too much to digest in one sitting. I have dipped in though and the first observation I have is that the articles describing eac more…

    Hi there,

Thanks for including a link, but here's a better one...

Click on this link here to see what Greenpeace have to say about nuclear power. I disagree with their approach. It assumes that we can magically reduce our energy needs. It's so obtuse and so far removed from reality it beggars belief. more…

Oh Dear! Giles Coren's rant against technology is most ill advised (Times, Saturday 22nd August; http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/columnists/giles_coren/article6805778.ece)
Making fun of technologies that are rapidly changing the World will make embarassing reading when Mr Coren looks back on his words in a few year's time.

    Impressive.
And next, the flooring. Well given that the model took 1.5 years and estimating it's relative size compared to the relative area of the floor you are about to cover.. and using some applied mathematics, I estimate that you will be able to finish the flooring by 2025!

Hi Cavielover, thanks for the comments. Our guinea pig has become a bit more sociable since I wrote this and chirrups contendedly when you stroke him. We're all spending a bit more time with him. I wonder how he was treated by his previous owners. In spite of this, the personality award still has to go to the hamster.

All i can say is you must definately be doing somthing wrong in the way you keep your guinea pig. They are very sociable creatures who love attention, they will greet you when you enter the room and have even been known to sing when you wistle. If you feel this way about your guinea pig i should find it a companion so it has some company. If yo more…

I agree with you about 1984 being a better representation of the totalitarian state.

Myself, I'm not overly concerned about the cameras at the moment. Yes, I do things that might seem unusual to others, but nothing illegal. The problem, of course, is defending the freedoms we still have and making it clear that technology is NOT flaw more…

Ages since I read it but agree its good book. I understand Burgess hated it-maybe linked to his condemnation of the Kubrik film version.

The classic totalitarian book still has to be 1984 for me-every time I see one of our evergrowing stock of CCTV cameras I think of Orwell's satire. more…

Bah! Seaside man! You're a tough cookie. I couldn't really fault the film. Acting was good, story was nice and simple, the camera work was fabulous. The pictures it painted of the culture, the poverty and the evolving economy. Sure it had a shmaltzy, cheesy ending, but hey! Who needs all that depressing stuff?
